During the launch of the 13th Annual International Research Conference at Eldoret National Polytechnic, Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria emphasized the importance of practical research aimed at solving societal issues.

The conference, themed “Competencies in Applied Research, Science, and Innovation for Sustainable Development,” brought together researchers and innovators to explore viable solutions for pressing challenges.

Dr. Muoria challenged attendees to shift their focus from theoretical studies to actionable research that can be implemented in real-world scenarios. “We have written a lot, but now it’s time to research on things that we can not only publish but also bring into practice,” she stated. Her remarks highlighted the need for research that addresses tangible problems faced by communities.

The Principal Secretary also reiterated the Ministry of Education’s commitment to practical training for young people. She noted ongoing efforts to digitalize the curriculum across Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, which serve a large student population. “We are writing to COMESA to assist us in digitalizing our curriculum and developing simulators to enhance innovation among our youth,” Dr. Muoria explained, underscoring the ministry’s goal of equipping young people with relevant skills.

The conference provided a platform for researchers to engage in discussions about innovative practices and solutions that align with the principles of sustainable development. As the focus shifts towards practical applications, the hope is that research will not only contribute to academic literature but also foster real change in society.
