G7 Summit of Women Governors Kicks Off in Kwale County
Kwale County is hosting a groundbreaking G7 summit featuring female governors, marking a historic first for the region. Governor Fatima Achani welcomed her colleagues, including Anne Waiguru, Wavinya Ndeti, Cecily Mbarire, Kawira Mwangaza, Susan Kihika, and Gladys Wanga, for the significant event aimed at promoting women’s political representation.
The summit will spotlight various development initiatives, including the official opening of the Kwale Oncology Centre at Kwale Hospital, a tour of the Kwale Audio Visual Studio, an inspection of the Kwale Stadium, and plans for establishing an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kinango Sub County Hospital.
In addition to showcasing these projects, the summit seeks to inspire more women to engage in politics, with a goal of increasing the number of female governors from seven to twenty-four by 2027.
Since the historic 2022 general elections, women have made remarkable strides in governance, holding the most gubernatorial positions ever. Although they still represent a small proportion of the overall governorship, their presence has ignited a movement toward achieving more balanced political representation in future elections.
The gathering in Kwale not only celebrates these achievements but also emphasizes the importance of women’s leadership in shaping the future of Kenya.
