Eldoret-based Human Rights Activist Kipkorir Ngetich has cautioned Kenyans against political opportunists exploiting the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for their own selfish gains. Ngetich singled out Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of misleading Kenyans by insinuating that President William Ruto was behind the impeachment, despite the process being a legal, constitutional, and parliamentary affair.

Ngetich criticized Kalonzo for failing to acknowledge that both the Senate and the National Assembly acted independently, free from the influence of the Executive. He argued that Kalonzo’s claims, which target the Kikuyu community, are aimed at stirring political division by suggesting that the president had sanctioned Gachagua’s impeachment to undermine the region.

“It is hypocritical for a seasoned politician like Kalonzo, who has served as a peace envoy in Africa, to now engage in divisive ethnic politics. His claims are dangerous, particularly for a country that has borne the brunt of ethnic incitement,” said Ngetich. He further accused Kalonzo of exploiting the political situation for personal power ambitions, warning that such rhetoric could undermine national unity.

Ngetich also urged Central Kenya residents to reject leaders who incite tribal divisions, emphasizing that neither the presidency nor the deputy presidency belongs to any specific ethnic group. He called on Kenyans to support leaders who promote peace, harmony, and unity, instead of those who thrive on hate and tribalism.

“Hon. Kalonzo’s thirst for power is evident in his recent attempts to position himself as a champion of Mt. Kenya interests while sowing seeds of discord. This kind of politics will take us back to the dark days of ethnic balkanization, which must be resisted at all costs,” Ngetich added.

He appealed to the people of Mt. Kenya to support leaders who stand for development and collective responsibility rather than divisive political agendas. He also urged Kalonzo to seize the opportunity to provide credible opposition leadership instead of focusing on tribal politics.

Ngetich concluded by stating that President Ruto has the challenging task of uniting the country, and Kenyans are looking forward to his address on the changes in leadership. He emphasized that the nation should embrace peace and move forward together, cautioning against any efforts to isolate regions or communities for political gain.
