Governor Mwangaza Launches Agricultural Support Initiative in Muthara and Karama Wards
Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza announced a successful initiative to bolster agricultural development in Muthara and Karama Wards, aimed at enhancing food security and promoting sustainable farming practices. The Department of Agriculture has overseen the distribution of vital agricultural inputs to local self-help groups as part of this effort.
Under the Improved Indigenous Chicken value chain, each participating group received 350 chicks, 35 bags of Growers Mash (20 kg each), and 35 feeders. Benefiting groups include the Ntamichu EAPC ELRP Women Group, Thuuria PWD Initiative Self Help Group, Antuanuu Maendeleo SHG, Lubuathirwa Imani Widows Group, Murimi Kamureria Women Group, and Mwontiri Ngitana SHG.
Additionally, for the Green Gram value chain, essential inputs such as seeds, DAP, fungicide, foliar, and herbicide were distributed to groups including Mutethia Luuma Maize Group, ST. Dominic Kamathi Self Help Group, Umiriria Karwanda Self Help Group, and others.
In support of the Sorghum value chain, seeds, DAP, CAN, and foliar were provided to the Luthie Borehole Water Project and the Mukiri Urru Youth Development Self Help Group.
Governor Mwangaza expressed her commitment to empowering local farmers and fostering agricultural innovation. “This initiative is a crucial step towards ensuring food security and encouraging sustainable practices in our community,” she stated. The governor emphasized that such support would not only improve livelihoods but also promote resilience among local farmers.
