Nyamira County Assembly Speaker Enock Okero Impeached Over Misconduct

0

Enock Okero, the Speaker of the Nyamira County Assembly, has officially been impeached following a vote that revealed significant discontent among the assembly members. The decision was reached after 23 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) voted in favor of the motion for his removal, while 11 opposed it.

The impeachment stemmed from allegations of gross misconduct and the sabotage of various assembly motions, charges brought forth by concerned authorities within the assembly. These actions reportedly undermined the integrity and functionality of the assembly, prompting the move to hold Okero accountable.

As a result of the successful vote, Mr. Okero has ceased to hold the office of Speaker, marking a significant shift in leadership within the Nyamira County Assembly. The assembly is now expected to elect a new Speaker to restore order and effectively address ongoing legislative matters.

The impeachment serves as a crucial reminder of the accountability mechanisms in place within local governance structures, ensuring that elected officials are held to high standards of conduct.
