IG Kanja Visits Internal Affairs Unit Headquarters to Reinforce Support and Professionalism
Inspector General of Police Mr. Douglas Kanja, accompanied by Deputy Inspectors General Eliud Lagat and Gilbert Masengeli, visited the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) headquarters at KCB Towers in Upper Hill, Nairobi. The visit aimed to bolster the morale of IAU officers and emphasize the importance of their role within the National Police Service (NPS).
During his address, IG Kanja acknowledged the crucial function of the IAU in overseeing NPS officers and promoting accountability within the force. He expressed his commitment to providing necessary personnel and training resources to enhance service delivery, urging the officers to uphold professionalism and discipline in their duties.
DIG Lagat praised the IAU officers for their exceptional work, highlighting that the IG’s visit served as a significant morale boost. DIG Masengeli echoed these sentiments, underscoring the IAU’s vital role in ensuring accountability through thorough investigations of complaints against police personnel.
The Internal Affairs Unit operates independently under Section 87 of the NPS Act, tasked with receiving and investigating complaints against police officers, promoting uniform standards of discipline, and maintaining records of complaints and investigations. The unit is led by Mr. Boniface Maingi, Senior Assistant Inspector General.
This visit underscores the commitment of NPS leadership to strengthen internal oversight and enhance the professionalism of its officers, reinforcing public trust in law enforcement.
