A group of twelve medical students from Erasmus Medical Centre, currently on an international study rotation, has made a significant donation of medical equipment to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret. The donation includes two hydraulic transport stretchers, 15 wheelchairs, four suction machines, and six trauma scissors.

The medical equipment was formally received by MTRH CEO, Dr. Philip Kirwa, who commended the students for their generous contribution. Dr. Kirwa highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between MTRH and Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, Netherlands, noting that it extends beyond study programs and strengthens healthcare delivery at MTRH.

“This new equipment will enhance patient care delivery and management across the hospital,” Dr. Kirwa said, acknowledging the vital role of international collaborations in advancing MTRH’s healthcare services. He further cited the contributions from other strategic partnerships with institutions in the Netherlands, Sweden, the USA, and Canada as pivotal to the hospital’s growth and service improvement.

The students who donated the equipment include Robin Dilweg, Joey Zuiderhoek, Tirza Karman, Anna Dijk, Livia Kooistra, Maud van der Lee, Annieke Maasse, Lauren van ’t Hoff, Dayna Naujoks, Lisa van de Kamp, Christine den Hollander, and Bodi van Alem.

The collaboration between MTRH and Erasmus Medical Centre is one of many international alliances aimed at boosting healthcare infrastructure and training in Kenya. Through such initiatives, MTRH continues to expand its capacity to offer quality healthcare services to patients across the region.
