High Court Ruling on Impeachment Upheld: A Call for Unity
Human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has expressed his congratulations to the High Court judges for their recent ruling regarding the impeachment of outgoing Deputy President Gachagua and the swearing-in of his successor, Professor Kindiki.
Ngetich praised the bench for upholding the provisions of the Constitution and ensuring that the legislative processes in both the Senate and the National Assembly were legitimate and lawful.
“The court’s decision reflects a commitment to the rule of law,” Ngetich stated. He emphasized the importance of respecting this ruling and urged Kenyans to maintain peace as the nation moves forward. He noted that political divisiveness and tribalism have threatened Kenya’s stability, calling for unity among citizens.
Ngetich also highlighted the significance of the 2010 Constitution, which empowers Kenyan citizens to make decisions either directly or through their representatives. He criticized those opposing the impeachment process, suggesting their motivations stem from a desire for power rather than the welfare of the nation.
As Kenya navigates its democratic journey, Ngetich called for the new Deputy President, a recognized law scholar, to foster unity and demonstrate leadership that transcends tribal affiliations. “He is the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, not just a specific region,” he asserted.
Ngetich warned against leaders attempting to sow division along tribal lines and emphasized the need for a dedicated team to support the President in transforming the country. He concluded by expressing hope that Professor Kindiki’s leadership will guide Kenyans toward a more cohesive and peaceful future.
