The County Government of Trans Nzoia has received a substantial boost in healthcare resources following the donation of 20 dialysis machines and additional medical equipment valued at Ksh 100 million. The donation, contributed by a German couple led by Timo Bellman, was officially received by Governor George Natembeya at the Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital on Monday.

Governor Natembeya expressed his gratitude for the equipment, emphasizing the transformative impact it will have on healthcare services in the county, particularly in the treatment of kidney-related illnesses. The dialysis machines, which now bring the county’s total to 24, will significantly reduce the need for patients to seek renal care outside Trans Nzoia, a challenge that has often forced individuals to travel to facilities like the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.

“We are grateful to Timo and his friends, who initially visited my office and committed to supporting our health sector. Today, they have honored that promise by donating these essential machines,” said Governor Natembeya. He noted that the county administration is taking steps to train medical personnel on the handling and operation of the new machines, ensuring that patients receive optimal care.

In addition to the dialysis units, the donation includes specialized equipment, such as a concentrate mixing device for dialysis, a feed water tank submersible pump, a carbon filter, and a dialysis water treatment system. The county has also acquired 10 hospital beds, which will bolster its inpatient capacity.

Recognizing the need to keep up with technological advancements in healthcare, Natembeya underlined the importance of ongoing training for health personnel. “With rapidly evolving healthcare technologies, it’s essential to equip our medics with the skills to use these sophisticated machines effectively,” he said.

During his address, Natembeya also urged residents to register for the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) to help offset the high costs of medical treatment, highlighting the county’s commitment to making healthcare more affordable and accessible.

Sarah Lubano, Chair of the County Assembly Health Committee, welcomed the donations and commended Governor Natembeya’s efforts in fostering partnerships to improve healthcare services. “Since the Governor assumed office, we’ve seen substantial enhancements in our healthcare facilities, thanks to the goodwill he has built with partners. We are indeed grateful for these resources,” she remarked.

The county’s health facilities have also benefited from recent acquisitions, including MRI and CT scanners, blood scanning and grouping machines, laundry systems, and advanced morgue facilities such as fridges and cold rooms.

This latest equipment donation is expected to play a pivotal role in improving healthcare delivery across Trans Nzoia, with Governor Natembeya reaffirming his pledge to prioritize health services for county residents.
