President William Ruto Tribute to Innovation and Progress
In his latest State of the Nation Address, His Excellency the President highlighted the transformative impact of technology in reshaping government operations, specifically through the e-Citizen platform. The President lauded the significant strides made in automating and digitizing revenue collection and service delivery, a move that has brought unprecedented efficiency and transparency to the public sector.
“We have achieved remarkable improvements by automating and digitizing our systems through e-Citizen,” the President announced. “From just 350 digitized services in 2022, we have expanded to 20,855 government services as of today—an extraordinary increase of almost 6,000%.”
This monumental shift has not only streamlined service delivery but has also substantially enhanced revenue collection across various government institutions. A shining example of this success is the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).
The President noted, “In the year ending June 30, 2023, KWS reported a total revenue of KSh 5.3 billion. However, after implementing a digital revenue collection system, that figure soared to KSh 7.6 billion in the year ending June 30, 2024, marking an impressive 43% growth.”
This achievement has positioned KWS on the path to financial independence, significantly reducing its reliance on exchequer support. The success of this initiative underscores the potential of technology to revolutionize governance and ensure public institutions operate more efficiently and sustainably.
“I commend the team at KWS for their dedication and innovation,” the President stated, “as well as all other government institutions that have leveraged technology to improve revenue collection.”
