President Ruto meets Uhuru Kenyatta this is what they discussed
In a significant meeting today, His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto visited former President Uhuru Kenyatta at his family home in Gatundu. The two leaders engaged in a comprehensive discussion on several matters of national and regional importance, reaffirming their commitment to Kenya’s progress and regional stability.
President Ruto took the opportunity to express his deep appreciation for President Kenyatta’s statesmanship, particularly his role in overseeing the peaceful transfer of power following the 2022 elections. He commended the former President for his ongoing support towards Kenya’s development and the goodwill he has demonstrated toward his fellow leaders.
During their discussions, the leaders acknowledged the significant challenges posed by global events, including the disruptive impacts of COVID-19, the war in Ukraine, and the resulting high commodity prices and volatile currency markets. Despite these challenges, they highlighted the nation’s progress, particularly in reducing inflation to its lowest level in a decade, stabilizing the Kenyan shilling, and lowering interest rates.
The meeting also focused on the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, with President Ruto thanking President Kenyatta for the strong foundation laid during his tenure. This foundation has enabled the government to implement key programs aimed at transforming agriculture, achieving universal health coverage, providing affordable housing, and empowering MSMEs. The leaders emphasized the need to accelerate these initiatives to improve household incomes and create more opportunities for all Kenyans.
In addition to economic issues, the leaders underscored the importance of fostering national unity and collaboration among all Kenyans and stakeholders, including the three arms of government, religious leaders, and civil society. They stressed the importance of creating a harmonious working relationship to ensure national stability and progress.
The two Presidents also discussed the importance of achieving broader political consensus in Kenya, noting that inclusive growth is key to fulfilling the national development agenda. They agreed on the necessity of resolving pending issues, such as the constitution of the IEBC selection panel, to ensure the appointment of commissioners.
On the regional front, Presidents Ruto and Kenyatta reaffirmed Kenya’s role in promoting peace and security in East Africa. They highlighted the country’s diplomatic and peace-support initiatives, which play a crucial role in resolving conflicts and fostering stability in the region. President Ruto praised President Kenyatta for his tireless contributions to peace-making efforts.
The two leaders also voiced their support for Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the position of Chair of the African Union Commission, calling on Kenyans and international partners to back his bid.
President Ruto and President Kenyatta extended their warm wishes to all Kenyans, wishing them happy holidays as they enter the festive season. The leaders also committed to maintaining regular engagements on matters of national importance alongside other key stakeholders.
