Gloves Off! President Ruto Takes on His Critics
After many days of direct criticism of the government’s agenda and administration, President William Ruto today, during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, took the opportunity to lecture his critics, stating that the opposition’s claims are baseless.
Ruto seemed outraged by how critics’ information spreads quickly and gains momentum on social media. He said that the negative trends on social media could only delay the country’s progress, urging Kenyans to work hard on nation-building.
“At all times, let us endeavor to engage on the basis of truth. Failure to do so will take us down the path of negativity, turning us into people who sabotage development, undermine our democracy, and destroy our Republic in pursuit of political expediency,” said Ruto.
The head of state emphasized that what the government is saying is not a rumor but a reality, pointing out that the cost of living and inflation have come down, facts that are often misperceived as lies by his critics. He encouraged his critics to engage based on truth and facts. The president, however, wondered what his critics would say when the reality unfolds.
“What will they say in a few weeks’ time when we begin to give keys to new homeowners of our affordable housing units? What will they say about the thousands of plumbers, electricians, health workers, building and construction workers, digital workers, and many more who are already at work?” asked Ruto, expressing confidence in the ability of his transformation agenda to deliver.
The president encouraged Kenyans and leaders to ensure that their political rivals do not oppose development, demoralize the people, or degenerate into anarchy.
