Kapseret Member of Parliament, Oscar Sudi, has hit out at those opposing the government’s upcoming livestock vaccination program, urging them to approach the initiative with a spirit of constructive engagement rather than resistance. Sudi’s comments came during his attendance at the 10th Annual Baringo Cultural Festival and Kimalel Goat Auction, where he was joined by President William Ruto and other leaders.

While addressing the crowd at the event, Sudi acknowledged the concerns raised by some individuals and groups regarding the vaccination program but emphasized the importance of protecting livestock health and safeguarding the livelihoods of farmers, particularly in rural communities.

“The vaccination program is not just a government initiative; it is a critical step towards securing the future of our farmers, their livestock, and our local economies. Livestock farming is the backbone of many households in Baringo and other regions, and we cannot afford to ignore the role that disease control plays in ensuring their continued productivity,” said Sudi.

Sudi stressed that while criticism is a natural part of any new program, it must be constructive and aimed at improving the process, rather than undermining efforts to improve the agricultural sector. He urged opponents of the vaccination initiative to engage in dialogue and offer solutions rather than creating unnecessary tension and confusion within the farming community.

“I call on those opposing this initiative to stop spreading negativity. Instead of opposing the program, let us work together to address any concerns in a constructive manner. We must understand that this vaccination is key to protecting our livestock from diseases that have devastated herds in the past,” he added.

The MP noted that the program would not only prevent the spread of diseases but also enhance the productivity and resilience of the livestock sector, which is essential for the livelihoods of millions of Kenyans. He further emphasized the role that livestock farming plays in food security and economic stability, especially in counties like Baringo, where many families depend on their herds for income.

“The government is committed to ensuring that the vaccination program reaches all farmers, including those in the most remote areas. This is a chance to improve the health of our animals and, in turn, the well-being of our people. Let’s set aside our differences and support this vital initiative,” Sudi urged.

Sudi’s remarks come as the government prepares to roll out the livestock vaccination program, which has garnered both support and criticism. While some farmers and stakeholders have expressed concerns about its implementation, the government maintains that it is an essential step toward ensuring the long-term sustainability of the livestock industry.

As the vaccination campaign draws closer, Sudi’s call for unity and constructive dialogue remains a key message to those both supporting and opposing the program. The Kapseret MP concluded by reiterating his commitment to supporting the program and working with all stakeholders to ensure its success for the benefit of Kenya’s agricultural future.
