President William Ruto Announces Support for Farmers Through Broad Vaccination Program
President William Ruto has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting farmers in sustaining the progress made in agricultural productivity, which has significantly increased their earnings and enhanced the country’s food security. Speaking at the 10th Annual Baringo Cultural Festival and Kimalel Goat Auction, the President emphasized that the government is taking bold steps to ensure Kenyan farmers fully benefit from international market opportunities.
Addressing a crowd of farmers, community leaders, and government officials, President Ruto outlined the importance of improving animal health through a comprehensive vaccination program aimed at reducing disease prevalence and meeting global agricultural standards.
“As a government, we are committed to ensuring that our farmers continue to thrive, building on the progress we have made in improving agricultural productivity. Our aim is to help our farmers sustain their achievements, which have not only increased their earnings but also contributed significantly to the food security of our nation,” President Ruto said.
The President highlighted that the new vaccination initiative is a crucial part of the government’s broader strategy to improve livestock health and ensure that Kenyan farmers can fully benefit from global trade opportunities. The program will involve the use of locally-produced vaccines, aimed at controlling the spread of livestock diseases that have historically affected the sector.
“We are introducing a broad vaccination program to ensure that our livestock remain healthy and competitive in the global market. By using locally-produced vaccines, we will reduce the prevalence of diseases in our herds, ensuring that our products meet international standards and gain access to international markets,” he explained.
The program is expected to benefit farmers across the country, particularly those in regions heavily dependent on livestock farming. It aims to boost the productivity and resilience of the livestock sector, addressing the health challenges that have previously hindered the growth of the industry.
President Ruto also emphasized that the government will continue to invest in agricultural innovation and infrastructure to create an enabling environment for farmers to thrive. He called on farmers to embrace modern agricultural practices and take advantage of the opportunities created by the government’s policies to enhance their productivity.
“We are not just talking about food security within Kenya, but ensuring that our farmers can also access international markets with confidence. This vaccination program is just one of the many steps we are taking to boost Kenya’s agricultural exports, improve livestock productivity, and ultimately create a sustainable future for our farmers,” he added.
The announcement of the vaccination program comes at a time when the government is focusing on building a more resilient and self-sufficient agricultural sector. The program aligns with the President’s broader agenda of fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and enhancing food security for all Kenyans.
The government’s support for farmers, through initiatives like the vaccination program, reflects a commitment to strengthening Kenya’s agricultural sector and improving the livelihoods of millions of farmers across the country.
