Tensions in Kaptagat heightened today as residents staged a demonstration demanding justice and accountability from local police, prompting swift action from the newly appointed Officer Commanding Station (OCS). The protest, which erupted in response to recent allegations of police misconduct, including the theft of livestock, saw dozens of community members rallying in the streets.

In a public address following the unrest, the new OCS confirmed the arrest of two police officers who were allegedly involved in the theft of livestock from local farmers. The officers were promptly arraigned in Eldoret court earlier today, facing charges related to the crime. “We are committed to ensuring justice for our community, and these officers will face the full force of the law,” the OCS stated.

The OCS also emphasized plans to pursue a civil suit to compensate the affected farmers for the loss of their cows, vowing that the community would receive rightful compensation. “We will seek justice for all lost livestock, ensuring that the citizens of Kaptagat get the justice they deserve,” the OCS assured.

Furthermore, the OCS announced that effective tomorrow, all police officers at the station, including traffic officers, will be replaced. This move comes as part of a broader initiative to restore trust and accountability within the local police force. “As your leader, I will not rest until the necessary changes are made, and the community can trust that the police serve their true purpose of protecting and serving the people,” the OCS concluded.

Residents, who had initially voiced concerns over the integrity of the local police force, expressed cautious optimism following the announcements, hoping for a more transparent and responsive police service in the future.
