Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba Condemns Abductions of Young Kenyans
By John Kariuki
Githunguri Member of Parliament, Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba, has issued a scathing statement condemning the rising cases of abductions targeting young people in Kenya. She called these acts a blatant violation of the rule of law and an affront to the democratic principles upon which the country is built.
Hon. Wamuchomba cited the cases of 22-year-olds Billy Mwangi from Embu and Peter Muteti from Meru, among others, who have allegedly disappeared at the hands of “unknown” individuals. Reports suggest these abductions are carried out with intentions to torture, maim, and silence dissenting voices.
“Abducting young people to silence them is a rudimentary exhibit of how low we can go as a country, yet we are governed by the rule of law,” she lamented. “Silencing them through arbitrary arrests and torture will only build pressure of intolerance to extreme suppression.”
The MP criticized the inhumane nature of these actions, particularly during the festive season when families should be united in celebration. She decried the emotional and psychological stress inflicted on the families of the missing individuals, terming it both inhumane and ungodly.
Hon. Wamuchomba called for the immediate release of Bernard Kavuli, Peter Muteti, Billy Mwangi, and all other abductees. She demanded that if there are any legitimate accusations against them, the government should present them in court in accordance with the Kenyan Constitution.
“Kenya is a democracy,” she affirmed. “Stop impunity.”
Her remarks serve as a clarion call for justice and accountability in a nation grappling with concerns over human rights violations. The hashtags #FreeBenardKavuli, #FreePeterMuteti, and #FreeBillyMwangi amplify her plea for action, resonating with a public increasingly alarmed by these troubling developments.
Hon. Wamuchomba’s bold stance reflects her commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law, reminding Kenyans that democracy thrives only when human rights and constitutional principles are respected.
