Political activist Kasmuel McOure has sharply condemned President William Ruto for his perceived indifference following the tragic deaths of 21 young boys in a dormitory fire. While Ruto attended international engagements, he notably missed the victims’ funeral and only ordered flags to be flown at half-mast, actions that McOure characterized as insufficient in the face of such a calamity.

During a press conference, McOure expressed outrage over the government’s response to police violence, highlighting that families of victims are still awaiting justice. “I’m beginning to doubt his empathy and humanity,” McOure said, criticizing Ruto’s hustler narrative and the newly introduced Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) initiative, which he deemed inconsiderate and lacking in transparency, particularly regarding the fees imposed on boda boda operators.

The activist’s criticism extends beyond the SHIF initiative. He pointed to the recent assault of a young man in Mombasa, emphasizing the government’s silence on the incident. McOure vowed that if no answers are provided within a week, he and other youth will march to the County Government of Mombasa to demand accountability.

“In a week, if we do not get an answer, we will drive to the county government of Mombasa to stand with their own,” McOure declared, calling for solidarity among young Kenyans.

His statements reflect a growing discontent among the youth regarding their leadership. McOure’s calls for unity and action resonate with a generation increasingly mobilizing for justice across tribal and class lines, challenging the status quo and demanding change in their communities. As tensions rise, his activism highlights the urgent need for accountability and responsiveness from government officials.
