AMPATH has donated two Gene-Xpert machines to Turkana governor Josephat Nanok.
He says the machines will be installed in Lokori and Lokitaung’ Sub County Hospitals to serve Turkana North and Turkana East for diagnosis of TB, HIV in infants, viral load monitoring in addition to Covid-19 testing.
The machines were handed over by AMPATHplus Chief of Party Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo.
These bring the total of gene-Xpert machines to seven in the county, with others installed in Lopiding and Katilu Sub-County Hospitals, IRC Refugee Hospital and two in Lodwar County Referral Hospital.
The machines have cut cost of transportation of samples outside the county and reduced referrals from the sub-counties
“We appreciate the support from AMPATH who through the USAID AMPATHPlus programme supported the County in innovative care interventions, research, and training on HIV and non-communicable chronic diseases,” he says.
