ANC Party Resists Absorption into UDA, Plans Aggressive Recruitment Drive in Uasin Gishu
The Amani National Congress (ANC) Party’s Uasin Gishu Branch has firmly declared that they will not allow the party to be absorbed by President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). This assertion comes amidst ongoing political realignments ahead of Kenya’s next general elections.
Speaking to the press, Jairus Amunga, the Deputy Secretary of ANC’s Uasin Gishu Branch, emphasized the party’s resilience and independence. “We confirm that the Party is strong, stable, dynamic and formidable, and is not folding, being swallowed nor dissolving any time soon. In fact, we are enhancing its presence in North Rift through aggressive recruitment and visibility to make it a party of choice,” Amunga stated.
Amunga asserted that the Uasin Gishu Branch officials are the recognized representatives of ANC in the county. He condemned any other individuals or groups claiming to speak on behalf of the party as engaging in wishful thinking. “We wish therefore to refute and condemn any other persons, groups, defectors or individuals purporting to represent or issue statements on social media platforms on behalf of the Party,” he added.
The ANC’s local leadership is focused on expanding its membership base across polling stations, centers, wards, and sub-county levels, aiming to field candidates in all elective positions. In their recruitment efforts, the party has been inclusive, ensuring representation of women, ethnic minorities, persons living with disabilities (PLWDs), youth, and religious groups.
The branch is targeting the recruitment of an additional 105,000 members by 2025, building on its current membership of 92,000. This expansion is part of their preparation to present candidates in the 2027 elections. Amunga called on the national leadership to be more vocal and proactive on economic, political, and strategic matters.
Regarding potential partnerships with other parties, Amunga stated that any such collaborations must adhere to the party’s constitution and processes, ensuring mutual understanding and a win-win scenario.
The ANC Uasin Gishu Branch also voiced its views on the Finance Bill 2024, urging the National Assembly Finance Committee to amend various provisions. They advocated for maintaining the tax exemption on bread, reviewing motor vehicle tax to a maximum of Ksh 50,000, and retaining the 15% excise duty on telephone and internet data to support educational institutions. Additionally, they called for retaining the 15% excise duty on money transfers to aid small-scale traders.
Despite challenges, the ANC branch extended congratulations to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and President William Ruto for their efforts to stabilize the economy. They highlighted the North Rift region’s role as Kenya’s grain production hub and emphasized the need for quality seeds and fertilizer to boost food productivity.
The ANC Party in Uasin Gishu concluded by urging all party officials to maintain focus and dedication in building the party at all levels. They also expressed condolences to families affected by recent floods and road accidents.
