In a fervent call to action, Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit of the Anglican Church of Kenya has urged Generation Z to assume pivotal roles within the church, emphasizing their potential to drive meaningful change across the country.

Addressing congregants at St. Peter’s Cathedral in the Diocese of Maseno East, Archbishop Sapit underscored the importance of youth engagement not only in church activities but also in reflecting on Kenya’s current socio-political landscape. “The youth should occupy the church not just to exclude politicians but to deeply contemplate the factors that have shaped our nation,” he remarked.

Acknowledging the significant role played by younger members in making the church a sanctuary from political intrusion, Archbishop Sapit commended their efforts. “For a long time, I struggled to keep the pulpit free from political influence, but thanks to the dedication of young people, that vision has become a reality,” he expressed.

Expressing confidence in Generation Z as the future driving force behind Kenya’s political landscape, Sapit highlighted the need for their active involvement in church affairs, particularly through participation in the choir and other church activities.

The Archbishop also extended gratitude to Mr. Owiti for his leadership within the church, wishing him well upon his retirement. He announced the vacancy of the Diocese of Maseno East and outlined plans for the nomination of Owiti’s successor, affirming that eligibility would be based on merit and without bias towards gender.

“Any priest in good standing within the ACK church is eligible for election, regardless of gender,” Archbishop Sapit assured, pledging transparency and fairness in the selection process.
