Arnesen’s Boys High school Closed For a Week
Arnesen’s Boys High school has been closed for one week.
Speaking to the press after closing the school Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Muriuki Harrison said this is after students destroyed property worth thousands of shillings.
The students recently held peaceful demonstrations calling for the removal of their principal where they walked for 40 kilometers to the Ainabkoi Subcounty Commissioner to air their grievances.
“After discussions with the BOM and other education stakeholders we have decided to close the school for a week so that we can solve the issues that were raised by students. We will also assess the damage caused by students and do the repairs where properties were destroyed,” said the Uasin Gishu Director of Education.
The issues that were raised by students leading to the rampage include absence of teachers, students being denied access to the library, insufficient toilets, lack of water among others.
“On the matter of transfer of teachers It is not true as purported by students, the said teachers had been employed on BOM basis but after being employed by TSC on permanent and pensionable terms they were forced to move” said Harrison.
“ We will also invite parents to the school and witness what their children have done. The public works officials will also come and estimate the value of propert that was destroyed and parents will have to pay for the losses ,” he added.
On the issue of Kapngetuny boys the problem water was the biggest issue.
“The school is doing what it can to employ other board teachers to ensure students get enough teachers. We are also trying to solve the issue of water which has been a problem in the whole county. Students should persevere as we wait for the rainy season to come. ,” the County Director of Education said.
