Award-Winning Teacher Shokwei V. Barsulai Celebrates His Father
Shokwei V. Barsulai, an award-winning teacher, has always drawn inspiration from his father, Mr. Barsulai, a dedicated farmer, and educator. Known as *Mwalimu wa Kilimo* and *Mkulima wa Kahawa* (Teacher of Agriculture and Coffee Farmer), Mr. Barsulai’s impact extends beyond the farm and classroom into the very fabric of his community.
In a heartfelt tribute, Shokwei shared how his father’s relentless commitment to hard work and community service has shaped not only his own life but also the lives of countless others. With a focus on agriculture, Mr. Barsulai exemplified the words from *Colossians 3:23-24*, which say, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
“My dad has lived these words every day of his life,” Shokwei said. “He didn’t just teach us about the importance of hard work, he showed us through his actions. His diligence and dedication were not just for personal gain but for the greater good of our community.”
Mr. Barsulai’s journey has been one of perseverance and resilience. Even after retirement, many believed that his days of hard work were behind him. However, in a surprising turn of events, he returned to his roots—his farm—where he pioneered the creation of a coffee planting society that has revitalized the village and the surrounding K. South Valley.
This coffee society, founded with the goal of empowering local farmers and improving their livelihoods, has become a beacon of hope for the entire region. What started as a personal project has blossomed into a life-changing initiative, proving that retirement is just another chapter in the journey of a true pioneer.
Today, the society serves as a model for sustainable farming and cooperative efforts, providing members with not only a means of livelihood but a sense of purpose. It stands as a testament to Mr. Barsulai’s unwavering belief in the transformative power of agriculture.
“I celebrate my father not just for what he has accomplished, but for the legacy he is leaving,” Shokwei continued. “His work on the farm, and his leadership in the coffee planting society, continues to inspire and provide hope for generations to come.”
As the new year approaches, Shokwei’s message to his father is clear: “Keep pioneering, keep inspiring.” Mr. Barsulai’s legacy as an educator and farmer has become a lasting source of inspiration, not only to his children but to the entire community. Through his dedication to faith, hard work, and service, he has shown that it is never too late to make a difference.
