Busia Health Officials have expressed optimism that the County Annual Work Plan (AWP) 2022-2023 will operationalize the aspirations set in the County Health Sector.

Speaking during a two day sensitization workshop attended by the County Health Management Team and Sub County Health Management Teams, the Chief Officer Department of Health and Sanitation, Jonathan Ino said they are keen on ensuring that the AWP meets the budget threshold.

“What is in the AWP should be able to correspond with what is in the budget, similarly with what is in the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP),” he said.

Director Medical Services, Dr Janerose Ambuchi and her Preventive and Promotive Services Counterpart, Dr Melsah Lutomia noted that the development of the AWP will be very critical for the department to succeed.
Dr Ambuchi added that: “We hope that the new team that will take the reigns of power from Busia Governor, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong when his constitutionally mandated two term comes to an end in August 2022, will have the goodwill to support the Department of Health and Sanitation as well as ensure that the Facility Improvement Fund (FIF) is implemented”

She reiterated the need for the healthcare workers to remain committed to their work by exercising professionalism for the benefit of residents seeking services in health facilities.
“I call upon all the healthcare personnel to have the human face when executing their duties,” stressed the Director.

Dr Lutomia said that they hope the health sector will get more resources to boost the provision of health services to the locals.

“We plan but because of resources we are not able to implement. This has to a great extent hurt, annoyed and discouraged those supposed to undertake the duties.”

The workshop is being supported by USAID- Dumisha Afya. In attendance also is Living Goods Government Relations Manager, Patrick Adera and Nutrition International (NI) representative Juliet
