In a decisive move against rampant corruption and state capture, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party Parliamentary Group convened to address pressing issues plaguing the nation. Led by prominent figures within the coalition, the meeting delved into key concerns ranging from the distribution of counterfeit fertilizers to the tragic death of General Francis Ogolla, the former Chief of Defense Forces.

The coalition scrutinized the slow pace of justice in over 20 cases against the state, highlighting a disturbing pattern of delay and denial. Notable among these cases are challenges to government decisions and actions, including the establishment of commissions of inquiry and party defections.

Expressing deep condolences to General Ogolla’s family and the victims of the accident, the coalition called for an independent judicial inquest into the circumstances surrounding his untimely death. They emphasized the need for civilian representation in the investigation process.

Amidst economic hardships faced by Kenyans, the coalition denounced state-sponsored propaganda suggesting an improvement in living conditions. Contrary to official claims, the coalition asserted that the majority of citizens continue to struggle with basic necessities, including food, education, healthcare, and housing.

The coalition condemned the Export and Investment Promotion Levy introduced in the Finance Act of 2023, citing its detrimental impact on local manufacturing and job opportunities. They accused individuals with vested interests of exploiting government apparatus for personal gain, exacerbating monopolies and inflating prices of essential goods like steel and cement.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the coalition urged the government to repeal the controversial levy and intensify efforts to combat corruption within its ranks. They emphasized the need for decisive action by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to hold corrupt officials and businesses accountable.

In a bold stance against corruption, the coalition emphasized the fake fertilizer scandal as a prime example of economic sabotage and called for swift accountability measures. They demanded accountability from those responsible and emphasized the importance of restoring public trust through decisive action against corruption and state capture.
