BBI Ruling In Order -Chairman of Vijana Na Kazi UDA David Maina
Chairman of Vijana Na Kazi UDA David Maina has welcomed the nullification of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Speaking to the press Maina said the ruling was in order and a win to all Kenyans of good will.
“It effectively scuttles the succession plans of Kenya’s political dynasties.” He went on to describe the judgment as “an affirmation for posterity that power belongs to the people and power must be exercised in their interest and with their participation,” said the Chairman of Vijana Na Kazi UDA.
The youth leader noted that the proponents of the BBI bill excluded the youth from its inception to the final verdict today.
“On the other side as well, the voice of the youth was not heard debating or opposing the BBI.Our generation should have the biggest voice in this country but to use it we must not give in to apathy or fear.” He added.
Speaking about the political implications of the court’s decision, he said “We’re yet to see if this will be the end of Azimio, but it is now clear that the so-called Deep State is either unable or unwilling to do what’s necessary to make Raila president.”
He noted that UDA and other parties allied to the Deputy President have consistently been winning by-elections in wards and constituencies making many question the political value of the Handshake.
David Maina further urged Government to avoid divisive politics and get back to work on youth employment and food prices because majority of the youth now live below the poverty line. Many youths live hand to mouth and struggle to have two meals in a day.
He urged the youth to play a more active role in in defending constitutional freedoms, in party events, policy consultations and also vying for party and elective positions.
“The youth have been entirely absent when parties are being formed and when coalitions are being signed. We make up 75% of the population but unless we participate vigorously in politics we will miss out on our share of government” said.
Maina appealed to Kenyans to vote for Deputy President William Samoei Ruto come 2022.
“I urge Kenyans across all divides to support the Deputy President William Ruto in the coming general elections. William Ruto has distinguished himself as the only leader putting the country’s interests before politics, and he has the right policies to transform the economy and create jobs for millions of unemployed youths,” he said.
“William Ruto’s administration will put jobs first and will earmark adequate funds to create youth employment in digital, creative, manufacturing & processing sectors. We will also make sure Kenya stops borrowing heavily by doubling revenue collection up to 2.8 Trillion shillings,” he added.
