Boost For Teso North Constituency with 10,000 Seedlings Donation From NYS

National Youth Service (NYS) has donated 10,000 tree seedlings to Teso North Constituency to boost its fight to improve tree cover in the country.

Speaking at St Thomas Amagoro Girls Secondary School on Friday when he presided over the launch of the Teso North Constituency Strategic Plan 2023-2028, NYS Western Region Commander, Enock Ndenge said the tree seedlings will be distributed to the community in their bid to help President William Ruto meet the target of 15 billon trees by 2030.

Mr. Ndege said Achiya Echakara NYS Institute in Teso North is the first one in the country at Constituency level, lauding the MP for putting up classes, administration block, and dotmitory

Dr Evans Nyarangi described the launch of the strategic plan as a significant milestone for the Teso Community, noting that the SP is a cornerstone that provides a roadmap for the future.

Teso North MP Oku Kaunya said the launch of the strategic plan was vital for them, revealing that those behind the document had factored all their views, adding that the plan would benefit residents of the Constituency.

” My dream is to have Teso North become a model Constituency and to put it on the map of Kenya academically to be in tandem with other areas in the country,” the MP said.

Hon. Kaunya said his other dream is to relaunch Operation Rudisha Edula ( Operation return granaries) with stock of food as the case was before.

He said a model primary school and a police station will be built in Malaba, adding that digital innovation will also be a priority with 2 in Malaba Central and one in Angurai North Ward.

Amagoro-Awata-Kakpel Road will be upgraded to bitumen standards. Commercial enterprise farming will be upscaled, same to facilitation of cash crop farming snd diversification of livestock breed and collaboration with the county government pipe water to homes and water harvest.

County Executive Committee Member for ICT, Strategic Planning and Digital Economy Douglas Okiring said he has already sourced for five investors who are willing to come and invest in the county, adding that the only challenge now is to look for pieces of land.

Okiring said that it’s unfortunate that the previous regime had been operating without a spatial plan, noting that the scenario has since changed.

The CECM revealed that the over 800 acres of Nasewa land had been subdivided into two with part one being County Aggregated Industrial Park to encourage commercial farming and the second being Export Processing Zone to attract investors to construct factories for export purposes.

Nominated MCA Rose Amoit said very few politicians prepare special plans, making Hon Oku Kaunya a unique leader per execellence. He urged the MP to register the disabled with NHIF and to avail water up to sub location level.

Malaba South Member of the County Assembly Bonface Mamai urged Hon Kaunya to show them the way, and they will follow his way.

Angurai East MCA David Parapara Karani said he was behind strategic plans for Akudep CBO, Kolanya Girls Boarding Primary, King David Preparatory, adding that Strategic Plan will open doors for everything.

He urged the MP to also consider upgrading Angurai-Chamasiri-Changara to bitumen standards.

County Assembly of Busia Education Committee chairman and Angurai South MCA Joseph Eseme said his ward is very expansive with 5 locations, thus the need for a division, adding that a businessman who was arrested with bang by a chief and assistant should face the full force of the law. He also called for funding of the Kakapel cultural centre.

Teso North Sub County Director of Education Elizabeth Marakach said the MP has the qualities of a leader, and electorates didn’t make a mistake to elect him.

Kamolo Assistant County Commissioner Philip Omuga said the SP was a vital document, which will see you through, lauding the MP for inspiring his constituents and for being a focused person.
