Bungoma county government is set to benefit from a multi billion bulk water and sanitation project from the National government.
The Ksh 33 billion project will entail both creation of new waterlines, sewerage system and renovations of the existing ones across webuye East and West, Kabuchai and Kanduyi sub counties.
This was revealed today during a meeting between Governor Kenneth Lusaka and Principal secretary for Water Dr. Paul Kipronoh Ronoh at maji house Nairobi.
Dr. Rono further revealed that additional 6.2 billion has been allocated for rehabilitation of Mt. Elgon Dam, 5.9 Billion for Nabuyole and 180 Million for Namasanda dam totaling to a sum of 12. Billion.
Webuye town which has never had a sewer line, will benefit with a new sewerage system while in Bungoma town the project will entail rehabilitation of the current sewage system with a further extension to another line to Kibabii.
According to Dr. Rono, the rehabilitation of Bungoma dams aims at having steady supply of water for irrigation and home use for residents.
Governor Lusaka expressed gratitude to the Ministry of water noting that Bungoma has had water and sewer challenges and once the two projects implemented it will be something of the past.
” These are the benefits of county bosses having a cordial relationship with the national government. County allocations can’t fund such projects.” Lusaka added.
