Bungoma County To Revamp Major Roads to Boost Transport
Bungoma residents have been assured that the county government is in the process of revamping major roads in the region in a bid to boost the transport industry, open up communication, and enhance access.
Roads, Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works CECM Bonventure Chengeck stated that despite the budget constraints, he will ensure that for the next five years, the majority of the roads will be accessible .
Speaking during the handing over ceremony at the ministry headquarters in Kanduyi, by the outgoing CECM Mr.Collins Mukhongo, Chengeck affirmed that already over 89 roads have been advertised and 30 contractors are on site already on previous works .
“I am a hands-on person, I will ensure that major roads have been opened up by the end of my tenure.
He added that road works are ongoing on the dual carriageway from Kanduyi to Sangalo Junction to ease transport and beautify the town.
“Despite us having talks with KENHA to take over this road, small works are ongoing. This is meant to ensure that motorists are well guided to avoid accidents on the road,” said Chengeck.
On his part, Mr. Mukhongo noted that his efforts as the former minister led to the construction of the dual carriageway in Bungoma town.
“We were witnessing over 40 accidents weekly before we constructed this road. Its construction is a major boost to the transport industry and businesses. Our wish is to see you complete it. Have it well marked and lighting to help motorists,” he said.
Mukhongo noted that during his tenure, he kept the inventory of all roads and went further to seek for financial help from partners in revamping major roads and hence called on Chengeck to be making regular visits to ongoing projects.
“Your juniors who are your supervisors can sometimes collude with rogue contractors to give you wrong information, make sure that you visit those projects, this will help you to sieve the truth from lies,” said Mukhongo.
