The County Government of Busia is targeting to drill 25 boreholes this financial year to bring to 42 the total number of boreholes drilled by the Water Rig procured by the County Government in collaboration with 12 Members of the County Assembly through Ward Development Projects.

Addressing the press during the relaunch of the drilling exercise in Malaba South Ward, acting Water Executive, Dr Moses Osia said the County Government invested Ksh.40 million in purchase of the Water Rig and accessories.

” Things were down, but through the efforts of the Governor, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong were able to service the rig and other accessories,” he said.

Dr Osia noted that they intend to drill four boreholes in Malaba South Ward, adding the move is meant to reduce distance of water sources of county residents especially women and children.

” We pray that the weather will be good and equipment will be functional until we complete our target of 42 boreholes,” he said.

The wards which contributed to the kitty included Angurai North, Angurai South, Angurai East, Malaba South, Bukhayo East, Angorom, Chakol South, Chakol North, Nambale Township, Marachi Central, Bukhayo Central and Amukura East.

These wards contributed a total of Ksh.35 million through the Ward Development Projects with the Governorship contributing Ksh.5m to top up the amount.
