Busia Students Receive Governor’s Scholarships, CS Machogu Encourages Educational Investment

Busia County witnessed a celebration of academic achievement and a commitment to improving education equity. Needy students who excelled in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams received scholarships from Governor Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma.

Beatrice Nakholi, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, presented cheques totaling Ksh697,779 to the students during a ceremony at Kolanya Girls National School. The Governor’s scholarship program specifically targets underprivileged students who scored 370 marks and above.

Nakholi praised Governor Otuoma’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the county’s educational landscape. She urged Members of the County Assembly to consider allocating more resources to support educational initiatives, ensuring greater accessibility for deserving students.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary of Education, Dr. Ezekiel Machogu, visited both Kolanya Girls National School and St. Paul’s Amukura Boys. He commended Kolanya Girls for their outstanding performance in the 2023 KCPE exams, where they achieved an impressive mean score of 8.76. Dr. Machogu used this achievement as a springboard to challenge students across the county to strive for academic excellence through hard work and dedication.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to education, Dr. Machogu announced the recruitment of 56,750 teachers and a budgetary allocation of Kshs. 650 billion dedicated to the education sector. This significant investment underscores the government’s focus on expanding access to quality education and empowering future generations.

Dr. Machogu also acknowledged the value of vocational training, encouraging parents to explore these opportunities for their children alongside traditional academic paths. This well-rounded approach to education equips students with a broader skillset that can prepare them for success in diverse fields.

The Governor’s scholarship program, coupled with Dr. Machogu’s emphasis on educational investment, sends a positive message to Busia County. It signifies a collaborative effort to cultivate a brighter future through academic achievement and the creation of a skilled workforce.
