Catherine Omanyo, the Busia Women Representative, spearheaded a community outreach event aimed at enhancing safety and support for local residents. The initiative focused on providing essential resources to various groups within the constituency, reflecting Omanyo’s commitment to improving the lives of her constituents.

At Bumbe Beach, Omunyo distributed life jackets to local fishermen, emphasizing the importance of safety on Lake Victoria. “The safety of our fishermen is paramount. These life jackets will help protect them from accidents while they are out at sea,” she stated.

In addition to the fishermen, Omunyo provided reflectors to Boda Boda riders, aiming to improve their visibility on the roads, thereby enhancing their safety during nighttime travel. “Our Boda Boda riders are vital to our economy, and ensuring their safety is a priority,” she added.

The event also included the distribution of aprons to local women vendors, or Mama Mbogas, who play a crucial role in the community’s food supply. “Empowering our women is key to community development,” Omunyo remarked.

Furthermore, recognizing the plight of vulnerable families struggling with inadequate shelter, Omunyo provided iron sheets and blankets to assist them in building safer homes. “Every family deserves a secure place to live. We are here to support our most vulnerable,” she said.

Today’s initiative underscores Omanyo’s dedication to uplifting her community and ensuring the well-being of its members. As she concluded the event, she reiterated her commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the people of Funyula and fostering a safer, more supportive environment for all.
