CELEBRATIONS AS 159 CHILDREN ARE DECLARED FREE OF HIV/AIDS

The County government today marked the graduation of 159 children who have exited Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission PMTCT.

The children were born to HIV Positive parents but underwent successful PMTCT program and were now Negative.

In his address delivered by County Secretary Paul Chemuttut, H.E Governor Alex Tolgos congratulated the parents of the children and health workers for the dedicated support towards the success.

The governor said HIV and Aids was still the cause of high mortalities in the country and the scourge continued to strain budget in households.

Addressing the gathering, Ampath Plus deputy Chief of Party Dr Jeremiah Laktabai said Elgeyo Marakwet was one of the counties which have done tremendous progress towards reducing Mother to Child HIV transmission.

“We shall continue to partner with the County to ensure that targets are achieved,” said Laktabai

Lucy Kathi, a board Member National Aids control council said it was necessary to educate people living with HIV on life skill lessons.

Meanwhile in thesame event, the County government also launched the County Aids Implementation Plan CAIP for the next Five years.

Representatives of development partners Ampath Plus, National Aids Control Council among others were in attendance.

Health acting CEC Abraham Barsosio graced the event that was also attended by Chief officers Mary Kipchumba and Josphat Maiyo among other officials.
