Center Against Torture Kenya Foundation Launches Action For Justice
Center Against Torture Kenya Foundation has launched its Action for Justice Project in three Sub-counties in Uasin Gishu County.
David Omboto, Chairperson of the Foundation said that the project will help them reach out to the poor.
The project will also reach out to the people from the marginalized areas in Turbo, Soy, and Kesses Subcounties in Uasin Gishu County where they will be educated on the use of legal aid as an alternative justice system.
“The aim of this project is to ensure each and everyone has access to the law and also to look at how legal aid act and also the alternative justice system can be used in Kenya as our courts are overwhelmed with cases thus making us to come up with alternative dispute resolutions,” he said.
“We are coming up with alternative dispute resolutions which will help us assist the vulnerable access justice especially those affected with gender-based violence where women are mostly mistreated, domestic violence and also the mistreatment of the girl child facing early pregnancies, early marriages and Female genital mutilation(FGM),” added David Omboto.
According to Abubakar Juma, the Director of the CAT, disabilities, the most targeted people in this project are the most vulnerable group in society.
“In this project, we are targeting two categories of people which include the youths, people living with disabilities, and people infected by HIV the second category consists of the police, The Independent Policing Oversight Authority(IPOA), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution among others,” said Abubakar Juma.
