Chaos Erupts at Bomas of Kenya During Public Participation on Impeachment Motion Against DP Gachagua
Renowned activist Morara Kebaso found himself fleeing for safety amid chaos at the Bomas of Kenya during a public participation exercise concerning the impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The incident unfolded as Kebaso, known for his vocal criticism of government misconduct, awaited his turn to speak.
Witnesses report that tensions escalated when a group of suspected goons began throwing chairs, prompting Kebaso’s security team to intervene and escort him away from the violence. Despite his attempts to remain steadfast, the onslaught proved overwhelming, and he sustained injuries in the fray.
The disturbance raised concerns about the safety of individuals participating in the public discourse, especially those like Kebaso who challenge governmental actions. His presence at the event had reportedly galvanized other attendees, intensifying the hostility from the opposing group.
In a post on his X account, Kebaso recounted his ordeal: “I was barred from entering at the gate. When I finally got in, I was denied the mic at Nomad floor. Chaos erupted. I am headed to hospital; I live to speak another day,” he wrote, highlighting the alarming environment surrounding civic engagement.
This incident occurred during a nationwide public participation exercise, where citizens were encouraged to voice their opinions on the impeachment motion. The disruption at Bomas of Kenya casts a shadow over the process, raising questions about the state of free expression and the safety of activists in Kenya.
