Acting Amagoro Location Chief Joel Omachar has raised concerns over daylight thefts of domestic animals in the area that has raised a red bell.

Addressing mourners on Thursday, 24th, 2024 at Kidek Village during the burial of Vivian Aquillah Nyapara,23, Omachar said cases of goats, sheep and pigs being stolen using motorbikes has increased in the past few weeks.

The chief said nobody will be allowed to transport domestic animals, be it those meant for dowry without permits from the county government of Busia.

” The public is hereby warned to report anybody to the police on those they suspect to be engaged in illegal activities, noting that the government can’t allow residents who toil to purchase their domestic animals to lose them to perpetrators of the heinous crime,” he said.

The latest incident was reported early this week when retired optician James Idewa lost two of his sheep, which some neighbours saw them being ferried on a boda boda towards Malaba Border town.

A fortnight ago, Mr Robert Murega also lost his goat under similar circumstances, thus the need to stamp out this syndicate, which appears to get out of hand.

Omachar authorised the public to stop boda bodas or vehicles ferrying any domestic animals and demand for the permit before they are allowed to continue with their destination.

Mr. omachar also raised the issue of red eye disease, which has been reported in the county, noting that if left unabated, it will cause havoc to county residents.

Likening the disease to eye corona, the chief advised the residents to stop greeting people to avoid contacting the casteophoc disease.

The outbreak of the red eye disease initially reported in Teso North sub-county has now extended its reach to several other sub-counties within the county.

The disease has spread to Teso South, Nambale, Matayos, and Samia sub-counties, and the number of individuals affected has continued to increase.

The disease manifests in symptoms such as redness, swelling, itchness, and discharge of fluids from the eyes.

It spreads through direct contact , including handshakes, sharing bedding or clothing, and using the same cosmetics as an infected person.

Residents experiencing symptoms are advised to seek medical attention promptly from qualified eye doctors.

Proper examination is essential as the disease progresses through various stages, and treatment may vary accordingly.

Importantly, the county’s eye disease coordinator emphasizes that injections are not required for treatment.
