CJ Koome Devolves Magistrate’s Court to Turbo and Moiben Constituencies

Chief Justice Martha Koome’s decision to devolve courts to Turbo and Moiben constituencies in Uasin Gishu County is a significant development that will have a far-reaching impact on the lives of residents.

She says this will make justice more accessible to the poor and marginalized.

” Many people in rural areas are unable to afford to travel to Eldoret town to attend court, which effectively denies them access to justice. By devolving courts to Turbo and Moiben, the Chief Justice is making justice more accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial status,” said the Chief Justice.

Koome noted that this will also relieve the burden on the Eldoret law courts.

The Eldoret law courts are currently overburdened, with cases taking months or even years to be resolved. By devolving courts to Turbo and Moiben, the Chief Justice is creating new venues for cases to be heard, which will help to reduce the backlog of cases at the Eldoret law courts.

“It will create jobs and boost the local economy. The establishment of new courts in Turbo and Moiben will create new jobs for magistrates, court clerks, and other court staff. It will also boost the local economy by attracting new businesses and organizations to the area,” she added.

“It will help to improve security and law and order in the constituencies. The presence of courts in Turbo and Moiben will deter crime and make it easier for the police to bring criminals to justice. It will also help to promote civic engagement and participation in the justice system by making it easier for people to access the courts,”She added.
