Clerics Call for Arrests Over Fake Farm Inputs in Kenya

Muslim clerics in Kenya’s Northrift region are urging authorities to arrest those manufacturing and selling fake fertilizers and seeds. They warn that these counterfeits threaten food security and could lead to famine.

Sheikh Abubakar Bini, the Kenya National Fatwa Council National Deputy Director, emphasized the urgency of the situation. He called on police to swiftly apprehend those involved in this “dubious business.”

“We will not allow this to happen since it is a threat to food security in our country,” Bini declared.

This comes amidst Kenyan farmers facing long lines at distribution points in search of government-subsidized fertilizers. Hassan Koskei, a local businessman, echoed the clerics’ concerns, urging legal action against those involved in the sale of fake products.

“Let’s not kill our fellow Kenyans just because we need money,” Koskei stated. “All cartels involved should face the full force of the law.”
