Barely a week after receiving road projects for implementation under the 2022/23 financial year, several contractors awarded the tenders have begun working immediately.

According to the Uasin Gishu County Director of Roads Eng. Benjamin Kirongo, the handing over exercise which commenced last week is now 90 percent to completion.

“We are sure that the handing over exercise will end this week so that all the contractors can start working and complete the work as specified in the bill of quantities, “Eng Kirongo said.

He said the exercise involves handing over 102 road projects to contractors for repair works and some of them have already started working.

Eng Kirongo spoke on Tuesday during a meeting with roads section staff. He encouraged them to embrace teamwork and share any challenges with senior management for quick actions during the implementation period.

“I would like all of us to cooperate and expedite the implementation of the projects, “Eng Kirongo added.

He emphasized the importance of delivering quality work and reminded the team that Roads, Transport and Public Works department plays a critical role in the fulfillment of Governor Jonathan Bii’s agenda 6 in his Nguzo Kumi manifesto to enhance the road network, help boost trade, and improving livelihoods of the residents.

Members of the County Assembly who have already participated in the exercise pledged their total support to the county engineers and contractors during the implementation period.

The projects are spread across all 30 wards and the handing-over exercise involves both the county teams headed by three resident engineers and MCAs.
