County Assembly Speaker Joshua Kiptoo to Deputize Cleophas Lagat in the Nandi County Gubernatorial Race
The race for hotly contested Nandi gubernatorial seat has taken a new shape after former area governor Cleophas Lagat picked the youthful speaker of Nandi County Assembly Joshua Kiptoo to deputize him in his bid to recapture the coveted seat on United Democratic Alliance
ticket.
The speaker took his supporters by foes and friends when he announced that he had shelved his ambition of running for the governor seat where he was set to battle it out with seasoned and upcoming politicians in the party primaries slated for April 14.
Other aspirants salivating for the gubernatorial seat include the current governor Stephen Sang , youthful Emgwen MP Allan Kosgey who is also the son of former long serving Kanu era cabinet minister Henry Kosgey.
Kiptoo said that before he made his move to deputize the former governor, he held consultative meetings with opinion leaders, professionals, women, youth and the business community.
“I listened to the voice of the people and decided to form a coalition with the former governor in his bid to recapture the seat so that we can transform the county which is facing serious problems in terms of delivery of services to the people at the grass-root,” said Kiptoo
Lagat who is a former Chief Principal of Eldoret National Polytechnic was dethroned from his seat in the last general election of Sang and has vowed to recapture the same to complete his legacy projects.
He said that together with his running mate, they have signed what he termed Nandi Kenya Kwanza agreement that is aimed at ensuring they fulfill all the pledges they make to the voters upon assuming office in the August 9 general election.
Lagat assured his supporters that his administration will adopt inclusivity in all spheres of social, economic and political development agenda for the benefit of the people of Nandi County.
He regretted that all mega projects he started worth millions of shillings have stalled and promised to complete them once he takes over office after the August 9 election.
“The current county administration has done a lot of disservice to the people of Nandi county by refusing to complete all the flagship projects I started and yet they were not mine but for the community,” said Lagat.
“I will not start any new development projects once I assume office but I will instead complete pending projects to save taxpayers money on non viable projects,” assured Lagat.
