County government of Elgeyo Marakwet has launched Ksh.13 million garbage compactor Making Iten Municipality Clean
The County government of Elgeyo Marakwet has launched Ksh.13 million garbage compactor truck that will be used to facilitate garbage collection in the Municipality.
Governor Wisley Rotich flagged off the equipment that will be stationed at Iten Municipality.
The governor asked wananchi to ensure they participated in Public Participation once he will initiate a legislation through the County Assembly pertaining establishment of a sewerage system for Iten Township.
“I have done my own observation and noticed that the reason why Iten has not been realizing rapid growth and attracting investors is because of lack of sewerage system,”said Rotich.
Developing a plot in Iten compared to other Towns is so expensive because of lack of sewerage system, said Rotich.
The governor said his administration is keen on cleaning Iten and attracting investment by creating an enabling environment adding that Sewerage system would be a priority.
“Part of my campaign pledges in my first 100 days in office was making Iten Municipality clean and attractive. I am certain that beginning now, this pledge will be realistic because this truck will be used to collect garbage from any part of the Town,”
Michael Kures, the Iten Municipality Board Chairman said the County government will be seeking to acquire at least 5 acres of land that will be used as a garbage dumping site.
The temporary dumping site in View Point being used currently will be relocated, said the Chairman.
“We will require an incinerator, and we will be doing garbage recycling that will enhance modern ways of garbage management,” said the Chairman.
Kures said the recently established Disaster management Centre in Iten Town is complete.
Governor Rotich administration will be launching the facility soon and could also recruit at least 10 fire fighters who will be taken for training at Ruiru ahead of deployment.
The governor was flanked by his Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek, County Secretary Paul Chemmuttut, Municipality Manager Raymond Omonei among other government officials.
