County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet to Invest in Agriculture
The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet is keen on investing in agriculture for prosperity and wealth creation of its citizens.
Addressing stakeholders during 3rd version CIDP generation, Governor Wisley Rotich said that Agriculture contributes 69% of Gross County Product.
Meaning it’s a sector that supports thousands of people in Elgeyo Marakwet. He added that he is interested in ensuring that he turns around the state of the County to make every household food secure.
Statistics show that 17% of locals in Elgeyo Marakwet County are food insecure despite the fact that 82% of total land is arable.
The Governor called upon development partners to work together with the County in ensuring that they supplement it’s development initiatives.
Governor Wesley noted that he has swiftly deployed staff to every ward to ensure that cooperatives are revived and monitored.
He added that the cooperatives officers will ensure that the existing cooperatives are strengthened and dormant ones revived.
“I am keen on ensuring that we have vibrant cooperative societies that binds people with objective of wealth creation.”
” My administration will work with various financial institutions to allow cooperatives get access to affordable financial support,” added Rotich.
He called upon state and non state actors to partner together in realizing this objective.
