County Reviews Cars,Lorries,Graders Worth Millions From IGRTC to Improve Service Delivery

The Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) issued movable assets worth millions of shillings to the County Government of Trans Nzoia on Friday.

The 300 assets, comprising cars, lorries, graders, and motorcycles, formerly belonged to departments whose functions were devolved.

Governor George Natembeya received the assets on behalf of the County, with John Kimwela representing IGRTC.

Governor Natembeya pointed out that the assets are essential in enhancing development projects.

“The availability of the assets will ensure counties are fully resourced to undertake development projects.”he said.

He elaborated that vehicles bearing GK number plates would be registered under the county’s jurisdiction.

“We will liaise with NTSA to ensure the registration of the vehicles bearing GK numbers in order to carry the county registration, but generally, these assets are going to improve our service delivery,” he affirmed.

This initiative aims not only to enhance service delivery but also to safeguard public assets from encroachment, grabbing, and misuse.

They will also facilitate the county in updating its asset registers.

The transfer of assets to county governments is part of the process of devolving functions previously held by the national government.

The IGRTC has been conducting valuations of movable assets related to defunct local authorities and those associated with devolved functions nationwide.

The total value of assets being transferred across the country is estimated at sh.3 Billion.

Attendees at the asset handover ceremony included County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, County Secretary Truphosa Amere,her Deputy George Kisaka, County Attorney Walioli Wabwoba, and PSM Chief Officer Philip Kapten,GDU director Samuel Ereng among other senior government officials.
