Court Orders Arrest of Governor Bii and His Former Deputy
The High Court in Nakuru has issued arrest warrants for Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and his former deputy, John Barorot, following their failure to appear in court. The arrest orders, issued by Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ndege, come as part of ongoing proceedings in the Ksh.1 billion Finland education scholarship scandal.
Governor Bii and Barorot were scheduled to testify in the high-profile case but failed to attend the court session, prompting the judge’s decision. The scandal involves allegations of misappropriation and corruption linked to a large-scale scholarship program intended for students to study in Finland.
In addition to the arrest warrants, the court has also issued summons for two key witnesses in the case: Mercy Tarus and Joel Koech. Their testimonies are anticipated to be crucial in unraveling the details of the alleged fraud.
The court’s move underscores the seriousness of the charges and the need for accountability in the high-stakes investigation. The legal proceedings will continue as the authorities seek to address the alleged misconduct and recover the misappropriated funds.
