CPK’s 2nd National Congress Marks a New Era for Kenya’s Revolutionary Struggle
The Communist Party of Kenya (CPK) is holding its 2nd National Congress on November 16-17, 2024, a pivotal moment in the Party’s continued quest for a truly free and independent Kenya. The Congress arrives at a critical time, as political repression, class struggles, and betrayal by opportunistic factions attempt to derail the revolutionary mission of the Party. Despite facing heightened physical and digital surveillance, state-backed attacks, and other forms of resistance from the ruling regime of President William Ruto, the Party remains steadfast in its commitment to the working class.
Convened under the leadership of Kinuthia Ndung’u, Interim National Chairperson of the Majority faction, the Congress is a culmination of the Party’s rectification program. This program has solidified the Party’s role as the vanguard of Kenya’s working class, distinguishing it from the minority faction led by Mwandawiro Mganga and Benedict Wachira, which is accused of aligning with imperialist-backed forces. For the CPK Majority, the Congress is a reaffirmation of their adherence to Marxism-Leninism and the pursuit of Kenya’s National Democratic Revolution.
The two-day Congress will bring together 126 accredited delegates from all 47 counties, alongside 54 representatives from international communist and workers’ organizations, making it a truly global gathering of revolutionary minds. These 180 participants will outline the next steps in the Party’s mission to dismantle Kenya’s neo-colonial order and establish a socialist foundation.
Key discussions during the Congress will focus on revitalizing the Party’s ideological and structural foundations. Plans include the launch of an ideological school inspired by Pio Gama Pinto’s Patrice Lumumba Institute to ensure unity of thought and revolutionary discipline. Mass organizations such as the Revolutionary Women’s League and the Young Communist League will be restructured and reinvigorated to enhance grassroots engagement, reflecting the Party’s commitment to a mass-line strategy for mobilization.
Cultural renewal will also take center stage. The Congress will officially adopt the Swahili translation of the Internationale and unveil a new album, “CPK Songs of Struggle,” underscoring the Party’s enduring revolutionary spirit and dedication to the Kenyan people’s liberation.
This Congress marks a definitive break from counter-revolutionary factions and opportunistic actors within Kenya’s political landscape. By fostering unity through ideological clarity and confronting internal and external threats, the Party is preparing for a future where it can lead the people’s fight for liberation and power. Discussions will also cover tactical and strategic approaches, including coalition politics and the potential formation of a popular front, all aimed at mobilizing the masses toward the ultimate goal of socialism.
For the Communist Party of Kenya, this Congress is not just an event but a transformative process. It symbolizes the unwavering commitment of its leadership and members to the sacrifices required for revolution. With renewed vigor, the Party is set to confront imperialism, strengthen ties with revolutionary forces across Africa, and continue its march toward a free, socialist Kenya.
