The Centre for Parliamentary Studies and Training (CPST), in collaboration with the National Defence College (NDC), is conducting a three-day Capstone course aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Members of the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security. The training, taking place in Mombasa, focuses on security and national interest.

During the opening ceremony, Lieutenant General Juma Shee Mwinyikai, Commandant of the NDC, emphasized the course’s significance in developing strategic leaders skilled in national security management and public policy. The program will feature interactive plenary sessions designed to foster engaging discussions among participants.

General Mwinyikai outlined that the training will equip Members of Parliament (MPs) with essential knowledge and skills for effective national security planning and implementation, thereby promoting innovation and strategic productivity within government entities.

Professor Nyokabi Kamau, Executive Director of CPST, remarked that this training is the first of its kind in the 13th Parliament, highlighting the Centre’s commitment to enhancing the capacities of MPs in their legislative roles.

The Chairperson of the Departmental Committee, in his address, encouraged active participation from all members, noting that the training would clarify the diverse roles of stakeholders in the national security landscape. He proposed expanding the training to include all MPs, stressing the importance of balancing political and national interests.

This initiative aligns with the constitutional mandate of Parliament to oversee state organs responsible for implementing Kenya’s foreign policy, ensuring the nation’s security, stability, and prosperity. The training aims to empower MPs to fulfill their responsibilities more effectively and efficiently.
