CS Ababu Namwamba Unveils Quality Management Sensors

The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts Ababu Namwamba unveiled the air quality management sensors at LOBO Village, Eldoret.

He says the launch of the air monitoring equipment signifies the commitment to athletes towards ensuring that priority is given to their health for maximum performance.

“With the clean air provision, it is incumbent upon you to run clean devoid of doping,” Namwamba said.
Namwamba applauded Kenyan athletes for being at the forefront in spearheading the fight against climate change in the country and recognizing the efforts of the Kenyan athletes in raising the Kenyan flag high.

“Our athletes have been flying our flag high and they have made other countries respect us. A clean environment therefore would create a conducive training environment for athletes but also for the community at large. Due to these air quality monitoring sensors, we are sure that we are going to fight air pollution in our country,” said Namwamba.

The Cabinet Secretary revealed that Kenya Is expected to take part in the COP27 and also provide leadership in the United Nations in Egypt next week.

“President William Ruto will not only participate in the COP27 but will go as the face of the African continent and the voice of Arica on climate action. Athletics Kenya was the first out of the two hundred and fourteen world athletics membered federations to sign and commit to the sports for climate action under the United Nations framework convention on climate change. This shows the endless efforts of athletes in finding solutions to the effects of climate change on human health,” added Namwamba.

Namwamba urged other federations to actively take part in environmental conservation actions.
The Cabinet secretary, through his ministry, promised to support athletes in their preparation for competition, and investments and also provide a pension for the retired athletes to enable them to continue living their dignified lives as a token of appreciation for their efforts in representing the country well and making us gain respect from other nations.

The government aims at improving the forest cover from the current 12 % to 30% by planting fifteen billion trees in ten years to control climate change in the country lest we get more affected by it.

Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii said Climate change and the effects that are already being experienced around the globe are serious to an extent of threatening every life on our planet.

“I laud Athletics Kenya (AK) for partnering with Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and installing an air quality sensor. This morning, together with Cabinet Secretary for Sports and the Arts, Ababu Namwamba, we unveiled the gadget stationed at Lobby Village in Kapseret Sub-County. Real-time data from the air sensor will be relayed for air monitoring and enable our athletes to practice and compete in safe environments,” he said.

The CS also launched Nandi County’s Air Quality Monitoring Sensor at the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex.

Governor Stephen Sang said this is in alignment with the road to the Conference of Parties (COP27) as we continue engaging various stakeholders in the state of global progress against climate change.

“We have at the same time agreed with the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Youth Affairs and the Art Hon. Ababu Namwamba that we must take advantage of the untapped existing pool of talents across all cadres in Nandi County to ensure we nurture more athletes for national and global competitions,” said Sang.

“I am glad the Hon. Namwamba has agreed that the national government will complete the construction of the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Kapsabet. The construction and equipping of the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex will also complement these initiatives,” he added.

The CS was accompanied by Uasin Gishu governor Hon. Jonathan Bii, Athletics Kenya President Gen. Jackson Tuwei, legendary Marathon champion, Hall of Fame inductee Mr. Ibrahim Hussein, and current world leader in 1500M faith Kipyegon among others.
