The Senate Ad-hoc Committee pushing for compensation to the Kenyan victims of the 1998 US Embassy Bombing met with the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Hon. Florence Bore, earlier today to deliberate on the inclusion of the survivors in the social assistance programs.

The Cabinet Secretary submitted to the Senator Agnes Kavindu-led Committee that the Ministry has not designed a programme specifically for the 1998 Nairobi USA Embassy bomblast survivors. She however undertook to have her Ministry work with leadership of the 1998
bombast survivors to identify those who can be enrolled into the Inua Jamii Programme as per the set criteria.

She urged the survivors who are eligible for the Inua Jamii Programme and have not yet registered to do so during the ongoing country wide registration exercise which ends on 30th September, 2023. Further, the Cabinet Secretary promised to look into the concerns raised by the survivors, that fall under her jurisdiction with a view to have them resolved.

The Committee has in the past held consultative meetings on this matter with the CS for Health and CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. The Senators asked Hon. Florence Bore together with the aforementioned Cabinet Secretaries to have this matter presented in the Cabinet meeting and have it dealt with the urgency it deserves as the survivors of the 1998 USA Embassy Bombing have suffered for far too long.

Sen. Johnes Mwaruma, Sen. Peris Tobiko, Sen. Beatrice Ogola and Sen. Alexander Mundigi were present in the meeting.”
