CS Bore Makes Significant Role Towards Enhancing Safe and Orderly Migration
Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Florence Bore, made a significant move towards enhancing safe and orderly labor migration .
Speaking during the meeting attended by officials from Takamol Agency from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Thursday, 21st December 2023. The meeting was convened to deliberate labour migration between Kenya and Saudi Arabia.
Hon Bore, focused on fostering robust cooperation between the two nations in the field of labour migration.
During her address, Bore emphasized the warm relations between Kenya and Saudi Arabia, citing historical ties in various sectors beyond labour, including trade, tourism, and education .
The meeting showcased the commitment of both countries to streamline labour migration through frameworks like the Labour Agreement on Recruitment of Domestic Workers, and discussions about a Bilateral Labour Agreement covering all categories of migrant workers. The establishment of labour attache offices and utilisation of electronic platforms, these were some of the initiatives discussed to ensure safe and productive migration.
Private recruitment agencies’ role and adherence to regulations were addressed to maintain transparency and efficiency. The mutual benefits of labour migration were underscored by the significant contribution of remittances from Saudi Arabia to Kenya.
The CS expressed optimism about the shared future of Kenya and Saudi Arabia in the realm of labour migration, acknowledging the challenges and progress made, while looking forward to further cooperation.
