CS Interior Commissions Kenyans Prisons Maize Milling Plant at Naivasha GK Prison

InteriorKE Cabinet Secretary Prof. KindikiKithure commissioned the Kenya Prisons Maize Milling Plant at the Naivasha GK Prison where he was hosted by the Principal Secretary @salomebeacco.

The plant began its operations on 15th January 2024 and has already produced 158.2 tonnes of flour, with a design capacity to produce 30 tonnes of flour per day. The plant is one of the Projects undertaken by the Department in line with the plan of promoting Agricultural productivity and enhancing food security as espoused in the Kenya Kwanza Bottom-UP Economic Transformation Agenda.

The CS noted that the milling plant will increase the food capacity of the Prisons and assured those present that similar plants will be established in the various Correctional Institutions countrywide.

While addressing the inmates, the CS announced the resumption of family days and visitations for the inmates, decongestion of prisons by 50%, issuance of seed capital and grants to inmates undertaking different vocational skills to help them start their own businesses upon release, modernization of prison enterprises, and improvement of staff welfare as stipulated in the Report by the Chief Justice Emeritus Maraga Commission.
