Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, Mithika Linturi, appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries to address concerns regarding the subsidized fertilizer distribution program.

CS Linturi expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s disheartening that a small number of dishonest individuals, who abused their KEBS certification, have exploited our farmers.” He emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to rectifying the situation.

“We’ve conducted a comprehensive review of our distribution channels,” CS Linturi explained. “I want to assure affected farmers that they will be compensated for any losses incurred due to this fraudulent activity.” This compensation plan aims to mitigate the financial burden placed on farmers who unknowingly received substandard products.

Furthermore, CS Linturi delivered a firm message to those responsible for the inferior fertilizer. “Suppliers who tampered with product quality will not be paid,” he declared. This decisive action sends a clear message that the Ministry will not tolerate such misconduct within the program.

Looking towards the future, CS Linturi announced a significant step. “To guarantee high-quality fertilizer is readily available for all registered farmers, I will personally oversee the arrival of a new batch at our depots tomorrow.” This personal oversight demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the program’s integrity and the success of Kenyan agriculture.

CS Linturi’s proactive approach addresses both immediate concerns and future prevention. By compensating affected farmers, holding suppliers accountable, and ensuring the arrival of legitimate fertilizer, the Ministry aims to restore trust in the program and empower Kenyan farmers to achieve optimal yields.
